Guardian ad Litem
A Guardian ad Litem is a court-appointed attorney who represents the best interests of the child in legal proceedings. I provide a voice for the child, investigate their circumstances, and advocate that the child's best interests are protected through the entire legal process.
Mediator
A mediator is a neutral third-party who can help settle disputes without further litigation. This alternate conflict resolution method allows a mediator to listen to the facts, analyze the law, and work creatively with all parties to find a compromise that minimizes costs and uncertainty. The goal of mediation is for the parties to reach a fair resolution, timely and effectively.
Arbitrator
An arbitrator is a trusted third party who helps resolve disputes without going to court. The arbitrator allows both sides to present evidence, then makes a binding decision on the matter. This decision is often more timely and cost-effective than going to court and has the same authority as a court order. Arbitration is an option for a fair and impartial resolution of a dispute.
Parent Coordinator/Special Master/Referee
A Parent Coordinator is an independent third party vested with the legal authority to make decisions based on a child's best interest. The Parent Coordinator can help resolve custody matters, including school choice and holiday schedules. The Parent Coordinator manages communication and disputes between the parties involved, so that the focus remains on the best interests of the child.
The label of Parent Coordinator or Special Master or Referee depends on the authority vested by the parties and the court.
